[FANFICTION] - STANDALONE - LOOKING BACK TO THE JOURNEY
I speak of 'courage' because it was with the Voyager series that my passion for Star Trek was born and I noticed a persistent difficulty in approaching its characters and stories to create something 'my own', probably too tied to my 'fixation' with the series.
This story, a stand-alone, is set in two different timelines: in the post-Endgame, aboard Voyager, and in the finale of the third season of Star Trek: Picard, just after Seven of Nine became Captain and took command of the new Constitution III-class U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-G).
I wanted to try to give 'closure' (which, by the way, is not closure) to a series that ended perhaps too quickly and with a few too many temporal entanglements (for goodness sake: the acting of actors such as Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan was and will remain spectacular, without any doubt), but without a real conclusion to a journey that lasted seven long years... as exiles. The closure, however touching, still leaves something in the air, a flavour of unfinished that I have somehow tried to remove with this story, but which will lead me, I hope, to write further, more complete, chapters in the future.
PLOT: Having finally returned to the Alpha Quadrant, after seven years of wandering far from home, Captain Kathryn Janeway and Seven of Nine face an important discussion about the future of the former Borg. More than twenty years later, Seven, now Captain of the Enterprise, finds herself reflecting on those precious moments and what the future holds.
